Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy XVI PC Version and Exciting DLC Plans

Square Enix delighted fans during a PAX West panel, revealing significant updates and exciting future plans for Final Fantasy XVI. Producer Naoki Yoshida, at the forefront of the presentation, made some groundbreaking announcements.

“It’s been just over two months since Final Fantasy XVI’s release, and we’ve received an enormous amount of feedback from players around the world,” Yoshida stated via a pre-recorded video message. “The development team and I have also been watching your videos and streams, paying special attention to what everyone thinks of Final Fantasy XVI. We put our all into creating this game, so it’s a real joy to see so many different reactions.”

In a generous gesture to express their gratitude, Square Enix released a free update for the game, available for download immediately. The update brings several enhancements, including new controller layouts, a weapon skin feature that allows players to customize Clive’s weapon appearance, and alternate outfits for characters like Clive, Jill, Torgal, Ambrosia, and Joshua.

However, the most significant news came when Yoshida discussed Square Enix’s plans for expanding the game’s story. “One thing that came through particularly strongly was how people wanted to see more of Valisthea’s story and spend more time with her inhabitants,” Yoshida revealed. “To accommodate this demand, the development team has started work on two instalments of paid DLC.”

In addition to the DLC news, Yoshida made a highly anticipated announcement. “While Final Fantasy XVI was released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, we are aware that many of you have been asking for a PC version,” he said. “So allow me to take this opportunity to officially announce that development on a PC version is currently underway. I hope to be able to give you more information on both the DLC and the PC version before the end of this year, so please stay tuned.”

This revelation marks a significant turning point for Final Fantasy XVI, as fans eagerly await the chance to experience the game on PC.

Final Fantasy XVI was originally released for the PlayStation 5 in June, with Square Enix initially stating that it would remain exclusive to Sony’s console for the remainder of the calendar year. Yoshida addressed the PC version in a previous statement, explaining that optimizing the PS5 platform was their top priority before considering other platforms.

He mentioned, “Even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won’t be able to optimize it in half a year, so it won’t come out in a short span of half a year. I would like to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I am not at the stage where I can say when.”

With the official confirmation of the PC version’s development, fans worldwide can now look forward to exploring the captivating world of Final Fantasy XVI on their preferred platform in the near future.
